Stepping inside the narrow doorway, I saw only a tight hallway with three closed doors and a rickety staircase leading to the basement. This is Gordon's? It must be the wrong Gordon's.

I always seem to pass by on the way to somewhere else and think "Hey, I've not been there for ages - I must go back" and never do. A real hidden gem of London.
I've been twice. The first time was just after I had moved to London for the first time. I met up with some friends and was blown away. Very nice selection of wines and cheeses! Very nooky feel to the place.
The second time came months later when a friend from overseas stayed with us. It's a really convenient place to meet someone ('just outside the tube station'). Of course, after a few moments inside, it's wonderfully easy to forget all about modern London.
