What’s with fancy schmancy hotels in West London serving tapas? First, we reported on the tapas available at Knightsbridge hotel, The Cadogan. Now, we’re here to tell ya that The Gore Hotel in South Ken (one of our favourite spots to catch burlesque in London) is now offering tapas at their Bar 190. Happily, we can also relate to you that their tapas are a bit of a bargain, especially considering the chic backdrop.

Oak wood panelling, leather armchairs, mahogany tables, fireplaces. Sounds like the right setting for, oh let’s see … leg of lamb with rosemary jus, herb and lemon baby chicken with tarragon jus, sirloin with red wine sauce and Yorkshire pudding, pork loin with crackling and Bramley apple sauce or darne of salmon, but only if served and carved from a silver trolley at one’s table.

Want some recognition for all that elbow bending at the bar? Well, head over to Jermyn Street’s Cavendish Hotel, sidle up to Lobby Bar and ask the bartender for the “Gold Medal”. Created by Cavendish’s head barman, Robert Gaggl, the “Gold Medal” – available now and through the rest of October – commemorates the Beijing Games and welcomes the Olympic Victory Parade on 16th of this month.

Friday night’s Burlesque Soirée at Kensington’s Gore Hotel - featuring the exceptionally lovely Miss Polly Rae and her naughtily coy Hurly Burly Girlys - was brassiere loads of fun and well worth the £39 cover (which got ya in the door drinking a cocktail and enjoying a three course meal with coffee all while Miss Polly, Betsy Bon Bon, and Miss Laurie Hagen entertained). Good stuff!

Extended stay in central London? Skip the hotel

If planning an extended stay in central London, keep in mind that even the not-so-hot hotels can be rather expensive. One pleasant option might be to forego your hotel stay all together and, instead, rent a fully serviced residential accommodation ... at a fraction of what a hotel or bed & breakfast would cost.

At present, I've just moved back to London and will not be able to move into my flat for about a month. Until that time, my wife and I are shacked up at One Globe View, which seems a great option for anyone doing business or pleasure in the City of London or thereabout.

• Nice TV with full package Sky Digital Television, DVD player, etc;
• and considerably more, such as fresh cut flowers.
