Londonist recently paid a visit to German fast food eatery, Kurz & Lang, where we sampled the “wurst” meal: Bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato cubes, and a slice of rye bread. All for five quid, it was good value for money.

What's for Lunch? Toku Restaurant (at the Japan Culture Centre)
by Chris Osburn

June 26, 2007

Consistently ranked among the best Japanese restaurants in London (usually noted for its authenticity as in this
ItchyLondon listing and this LondonTown.com review), bustling Toku is indeed a noteworthy Piccadilly Circus landmark to keep in mind. And it’s not just London’s web heads taking notice; Toku entices plenty of Japanese tourists and ex-pats too (It’s always a good sign when a particular ethnicity frequents a restaurant serving their home cuisine).

There’s no middle ground when it comes to the Barbican. Londoners either love it or hate it. To those readers who love this futuristic concrete wonder, read on. Barbican’s Waterside Café, located lakeside at the Barbican Centre, might not offer the best meal you’ll ever have, but it is considerably better than most lunch options round the City.

Snoop around the Internet and you’ll find several references to sandwich shop Benugo’s free WiFi. For example, this post by Gavin Bell suggests that other cafés ‘should take the lead from Benugo and offer free WiFi like they offer free sugar’ because the ‘cost per month of running a WiFi access point is not great.’ However, you won’t find much online content about the real draw: decent sandwiches at a decent price.

Such a homey lunch seemed a rather ironic choice for such an upmarket area until the £11.40 bill came. Of course, one would be a fool not to realize space is at a premium in the Seven Dials shopping area; so, Londonist reckons that meals are priced accordingly.

by Chris Osburn

With over 50 locations throughout greater London, we’re sure many of our readers know the drill at all-pervading fast-casual chicken joint, Nando’s: decide where to sit and take a number; after deciding where to sit, place your order at the front counter and then sit back down; wait for it to be brought to your table. This model works well except, perhaps, if you’re dining alone and carrying bags.

2012 logo continues to get a beating

As mentioned here yesterday, the London 2012 Olympics logo has been met with a strongly negative response. There's even a petition for it to be changed, which at the time of this post had been signed by 48,615 people.

In one, the Conservative MP Philip Davies described the design as "childish and ridiculous" and "a pathetic attempt to appear trendy".

London 2012 Logo: Let the Cock-Ups Begin!

A major event deserves a major cock-up! And if the powers that be can start making a mess of things 5 years ahead of schedule, all the better. That about sums up my opinion of the new 2012 logo. However, I will say this: it's certainly not boring! And, to just be a logo, it is getting lots and lot of press. So, by the time the Olympics roll around, we'll have that pesky jagged glaring monstrosity permanently engraved in our memories, especially all the lucky folks who've had a seizure because of it.

Mayor wades into 2012 footage row
Creators of footage promoting the 2012 Olympics should not be paid after it emerged it could trigger an epileptic seizure, London's mayor has said.
BBC News
Last Updated: Wednesday, 6 June 2007, 14:24 GMT 15:24 UK

Ken Livingstone's comments came after a segment of the animated footage had to be removed from the organisers' website on the advice of experts.

Epilepsy fears over 2012 footage
A segment of animated footage promoting the 2012 Olympics has been removed from the organisers' website after fears it could trigger epileptic seizures.
BBC News

Emphasising that it was not the logo itself which was the focus of worries, she said: "This concerns a short piece of animation which we used as part of the logo launch event and not the actual logo."

'Oh no' logo
It has received a mauling from the public, but what do branding experts make of the new Olympics 2012 logo?
By Tom Geoghegan
BBC News Magazine
Last Updated: Tuesday, 5 June 2007, 00:49 GMT 01:49 UK

This is a logo which took a year to design and has to help raise £2bn of private money to pay for the running of the Games. So there were some understandable nerves among the London 2012 organisers when they unveiled it.

The London 2012 logo: the blogosphere is angry
The internet has seen the London 2012 logo - and frankly, they don't like it.
The following is an entirely representative sample of what bloggers and Twitterers were saying about the pink, jagged bit of 'branding' that cost £400,000

'Despite the fact that if you squint it looks a bit like a couple engaging in an act of oral sex and despite the fact that one of the Londonist co-editors described it as a "joke", I really like it.

The word 'Santoré' is Italian for Holy King - a well suited title, as lunching on a margherita from here is a near religious experience. Washing said margherita down with a crisp Peroni is truly divine. Similarly, sharing a pizza al metro with friends is a wonderful sort of communion.
