Overheard in London: Mobile Gout Advice at Stansted Airport

While sitting at a gate waiting for my flight, I overheard a man giving this advice into his mobile phone:

- Hello. This is ____. Is John there?
- Is this his wife?
- I heard that he had gout.
- Has anyone told him to eat cheries?
- That's right. He can eat as many cheries as he likes.

WANTED: Odd Photographers

The London Metropolitan Police have launched a 2008 Counter-Terrorism advertising campaign requesting members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour in confidence to the Anti-Terrorist Hotline. All well and good and I've nothing against vigilance, but one of the ads suggests that if you see an "odd" photographer you should take action and report him/her. As an "odd" photographer, I find this a bit worrying.

The Tube on YouTube: Why?

Here's a link to a post from Going Underground - "the London Underground blog" - about Tube Lines' new YouTube channel. I've also included the actual YouTube clip, which seems pretty inocuous but uh, shouldn't they focus more attention on just making sure the damn trains run on time? Maybe they had to make the video for investors or some government review board and thought "since we have it, why not share it with the public?" Whatever the case, here's all you never wanted to know about "future of travel on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly Lines." Enjoy.

An official announcer for London's Tube system has been sacked after making spoof messages mocking American tourists, peeping Toms and sweaty commuters. Voiceover artist Emma Clarke, 36, recorded the announcements in the same smooth tones that have warned millions of passengers to "Mind The Gap" and posted them on her ... site. The messages include ... "We would like to remind our American tourist friends that you are almost certainly talking too loudly" ...

Associating coach travel with smell is probably not the best idea for a National Express ad campaign. I mean, this ad reeks of sabotage or Photoshop manipulation, but apparently it's no joke.
