Basement Barbers

Having just posted a glowing review of
Basement Barbers on Qype, I figured I’d take advantage of the Qype does London blog to rave about this Exmouth Market gem a little more.

2008 Thanksgiving in London (sort of) (Qype does London)

2008 Thanksgiving in London (sort of)

Expat American living in London: that’s me. Usually, I’ve made some sort of effort to do something Thanksgiving-y every year I’ve been here … stuff like going out to a nice restaurant (went to
Portal last year – no turkey but it was a great meal) for dinner with family and friends or (when it was open) partaking in a sumptuous mound of down home Americana goodness a la (the sadly now defunct) Bubba’s at Spitalfields Market. But this year ...

Takeout Stakeout: Santoré

With wintery weather starting to really crimp our style and the festive season frenzies rolling out regardless of our being prepared, a pizza and a bottle of wine at home sounds like a brilliant idea (especially when the Santoré peeps to add a little fresh buffalo mozzarella ontop). We’ve been ordering pizza from Santoré for ages and have yet to be disappointed.

OLDP 02.11.07 - Door at Magma Books CO

As I said in my Qype review of this design-centric book and fun stuff shop, “I will go slightly out of my way for a few moments of eye candy browsing at the Clerkenwell Road location of Magma Books.” Yes indeed-y! In fact, it’s come to the point where I can’t even walk by the shop without poking my head inside for a quick look-see. I just love perusing the magazine stand (best selection in London?) and art books …

Yummy Flip 'n' Lunch at Ginnan Japanese Restaurant on Rosebery Avenue

A yummy (and plentiful!) lunch with Niamh - Trusted Places' Community Manager - and Dave and Lea - masterminds behind Unchained - at Japanese restaurant Ginnan on Rosebery Avenue turned out to be a perfect opportunity to play around a bit with my new Flip Mino. Check it!

Lazing and grazing on Farringdon Road (Qype does London)

Lazing and grazing on Farringdon Road
by Chris Osburn
Qype does London
August 4th 2008

Kicking back at home over a lazy weekend of not much doing and even fewer plans has its benefits, especially when the missus makes a trip to
Gazzano’s Italian delicatessen on Farringdon Road. This place has what you need in the way of pastas, antipasti, sausages, oils, sweets, fresh breads, fizzy water … there’s even a little sandwich and coffee bar in the back which serves one of the best espressos in London. The folks behind the counter are really friendly and, honestly, the prices are usually more than reasonable.

Clerkenwell and good: up in arms! (Qype does London)

Clerkenwell and good: up in arms!
by Chris Osburn
Qype does London
August 2nd 2008

… I can assure you that Clerkenwell is not a seedy part of town … It is a safe, central and desirable location known for some of London’s best pubs and restaurants. Indeed, St John (recognized as one of the 50 best restaurants in the world) is just down the street from me. I regularly walk around here late at night with no problems and feel comfortable when my wife or our female friends walk alone at night here …

Londonist: Juice Hut VERSUS Juice Stall

Here's another post in the Londonist series called VERSUS. The idea behind this series is to "take like for like and decide which one is more likeable."

We believe in a healthy, balanced diet at Londonist and so to correct the greasy but essential kebab research of the last Versus investigation, we now turn to the two juice bars on Leather Lane market.

Three Times More Gujarati Rasoi Goodness at Exmouth Market!!!

Just a quick note to let folks know that one of the yummiest meals I've ever had (Gujarati Rasoi's samosa chatt) is now available at Exmouth Market on Wednesdays and Thursdays in addition to their mainstay Friday street vending. Rejoice! (I reckon they're still on at Broadway Market on Saturdays too, but I haven't been round there in quite awhile.)

Think Victorian big game hunter meets Post Modern interior designer. Yet, the space is miraculously not cluttered or terribly busy, just sort of grungy-chic.
